In collaboration with prof. Peder S. Olofsson and Ms. Qui Guo (Karolinska Institutet Dept. Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine), we study the potential role of periaortic innervations in vascular pathologies in an animal model.

Upper panel: Abdominal aorta (ca. 6 mm) and adjacent sympathetic (noradrenergic) innervations in healthy (control) condition.
Lower panel: Sympathetic (noradrenergic) innervation of the abdominal aorta wall (ca. 1.8 mm), higher magnification, control condition.
Tyrosine hydroxylase volume immunostaining – red; Segmented aorta (based on tissue autofluorescence) – gray surface. In the lower panel, the volume immunostaining is visualized only within the aorta wall.
Samples: Qui Guo; volume immunostaining, light sheet microscopy and image processing: Csaba Adori.
